Happy, Healthy, Learning for Life and Caring for All
Our Art and Design Curriculum Intent:
Our aim is that our pupils become happy, confident citizens. Through Art, we develop creativity, encourage self-expression and enhance well-being. Children become resilient learners through the exploration of different materials, techniques and processes. They develop skills in drawing, painting, and making - to create their own art with increasing confidence. They develop an understanding of the wider historical contexts of artists, designers and makers.
Implementation:
The teaching and implementation of the Art and Design Curriculum is based on the National Curriculum. The children are taught Art and Design as part of their termly topic work and cross-curricular links are used to enrich learning. Our Art and Design curriculum is designed to be relevant to our school as well as provide a window on the world.

PUPIL VOICE
What do our pupils say about art?
"I'm a Lego artist and an amazing drawer and painter. We learnt to paint a sunflower and it's still on my fridge!" Y1 pupil
"I have learnt about hot and cold colours. Hot colours are red, orange and yellow. Cold colours are green, purple and blue." Y2 pupil
"I enjoyed learning about Banksy. I have that in Ripley's 'Believe It or Not' 2024. Art makes me feel happy, I just quite like it." Y3 pupil
"The teachers already do a lot of really good things about art learning. A bit longer art so I can learn more about it. When we do it in assembly with you it's really fun, especially the sketching all school." Y4 pupil
"I want to improve my drawing to make them look more realistic. I use my imagination, that really helps. Anyone can do art!" Y6 pupil
"I've most enjoyed abstract art. I like it because it shows your imagination what you can do with colours." Y6 pupil
