Happy, Healthy, Learning for Life and Caring for All

Art and Design

Our Art and Design Curriculum Intent:

Our aim is that our pupils become happy, confident citizens. Through Art, we develop creativity, encourage self-expression and enhance well-being. Children become resilient learners through the exploration of different materials, techniques and processes. They develop skills in drawing, painting, and making - to create their own art with increasing confidence. They develop an understanding of the wider historical contexts of artists, designers and makers.

Implementation:

The teaching and implementation of the Art and Design Curriculum is based on the National Curriculum. The children are taught Art and Design as part of their termly topic work and cross-curricular links are used to enrich learning. Our Art and Design curriculum is designed to be relevant to our school as well as provide a window on the world.

Enrichment

Our 2023 whole-school arts and writing week explored collage and mixed media. After reading 'Katie's Picture Show' by James Mayhew and 'The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau' by Michelle Markel we created art in response to Henri Rousseau's painting 'Surprised!' We were inspired by the National Gallery's 'Take One Picture' project.
