What is the purpose of Word of the Day?
Learning a word a day helps to increase the breadth of the children’s vocabulary. This is vital for young children as a good vocabulary helps them to articulate themselves and communicate properly – both through spoken and written communication. Sharing a new word of the day each day is also a great way to encourage more ambitious word choices for children.
In Reception, Vocabulary is linked to the story the class are reading in Talk through Stories. From Year 1-6, our word of the day includes a wide range of recommended vocabulary and relevant topic words. Children are taught the word class, spelling, definition and use the word in a sentence.
