Happy, Healthy, Learning for Life and Caring for All
Hazel Class is a fantastic Year 3/4 class taught by Mr. Povey (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) and Mr. McKenna (Wednesday). We are lucky to be supported by the wonderful Mrs. Griffiths, who helps us with our learning throughout the week.
This term, Hazel Class have been exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. We’ve learned about mighty pharaohs, towering pyramids, and life along the River Nile. One of our favourite activities was mummifying a tomato to help us understand the Ancient Egyptian mummification process — it was messy but amazing! The children have loved bringing history to life through creative writing, art, and hands-on learning.

Hazel Class have also been exploring Ancient Egypt through art and design. We learned about the significance of scarab beetles, which were symbols of luck, protection, and rebirth in Ancient Egyptian culture. The children began by sketching detailed beetle designs, carefully studying shape, pattern, and symmetry, before using clay to sculpt their own scarab beetles. Once dry, they added a touch of history and creativity by painting them in metallic golds, blues, and greens to give an authentic, ancient look. The finished pieces were fantastic — a perfect blend of art and history!
